Smart Sindara and the Treasure of Ilesha

Smart Sindara was thrilled to visit her grandmother in Ilesha, a historic town in Osun State, Nigeria. Nestled in the lush green hills, Ilesha was known for its gold deposits and rich culture. Sindara, with her curious mind and adventurous spirit, couldn’t wait to explore.

“Welcome, Sindara!” Grandma said, pulling her into a warm hug. Grandma’s house was a charming old building with clay walls and colorful carvings. “Did you know this town has a legend about hidden treasure?” Grandma asked, her eyes twinkling.

“Hidden treasure?” Sindara’s eyes widened. “Tell me more!”

Grandma smiled. “Many years ago, the great warrior Ogedengbe buried a golden drum somewhere in the hills of Ilesha. It is said that whoever finds it will be blessed with wisdom and courage.”

That night, Sindara couldn’t sleep. Her mind buzzed with excitement. A golden drum! She had to find it.

The next morning, Sindara enlisted the help of her cousins, Bolu and Sade. “We’re going on an adventure to find the golden drum!” she declared.

Bolu rolled his eyes. “Sindara, it’s just a story.”

“Maybe,” Sindara replied, grinning. “But wouldn’t it be fun to find out?”

Sade, who loved mysteries, clapped her hands. “I’m in!”

The trio packed a bag with water, snacks, and a map Grandma gave them. “The treasure is said to be hidden near the old baobab tree,” Grandma said. “But be careful—there are riddles to solve.”

As they trekked through the hills, Sindara noticed the vibrant landscape. Birds chirped in the trees, and butterflies flitted around colorful flowers. “Ilesha is so beautiful,” she said, snapping pictures with her camera.

Finally, they reached the old baobab tree. Its massive trunk looked like it had stood there for centuries. Carved into the bark was a riddle:

“I shine bright but I am not the sun. I make no sound but I am treasured by all. What am I?”

“It’s gold!” Sindara exclaimed.

Sade nodded. “But where is it?”

They searched around the tree and found a small wooden box. Inside was another clue: “Find the place where the river whispers and the stones sing.”

“The river!” Bolu said, suddenly enthusiastic. They rushed to the nearby Osun River, following the sound of the flowing water. As they walked along the riverbank, Sindara spotted shiny stones glinting in the sunlight.

“These stones look special,” she said. As they picked them up, they noticed an inscription on one: “Dig near the heart of the river.”

Using a small spade from their bag, they dug into the soft earth near the stones. After a while, they hit something solid. It was a chest! With trembling hands, they opened it to reveal a small golden drum, shining brightly.

“We found it!” Sindara cheered.

When they returned home, Grandma beamed. “You’ve proven that courage and teamwork lead to great discoveries.”

From that day on, Sindara and her cousins were known as the Treasure Hunters of Ilesha, and the golden drum became a symbol of their exciting adventure
