Smart Sindara and the Fireworks

It was New year Eve in Lagos, and the neighborhood was alive with excitement. The streets were strung with colorful fairy lights, children were laughing as they played games, and the smell of roasted corn and jollof rice wafted through the air. Smart Sindara, known for her clever ideas and curious mind, was thrilled about what was coming that night—fireworks!

Every year, the neighborhood families gathered in the open field at the end of the street for a grand fireworks display. It was a night filled with sparkles, laughter, and joy, and it was Sindara’s favorite part of Christmas and new year break.

Sindara had been preparing for the evening all day. She wore her brightest Ankara dress and tied her hair back with a festive ribbon. Her twin brothers, Timi and Tami, were already outside, running around with their friends, holding sparklers.

“Sindara, come on! You’re going to miss the fun!” Timi called out, waving a sparkler in the air.

“I’m coming!” Sindara shouted, grabbing her small invention—a "Light Catcher," a jar lined with reflective strips and glitter that she planned to use to "catch" the colors of the fireworks.

As she stepped outside, the entire neighborhood was gathering. Fathers were setting up fireworks, carefully handling the boxes filled with rockets and sparklers. Mothers were spreading out mats and chairs for everyone to sit on while chatting and passing around snacks. Children were buzzing with excitement, holding sparklers and blowing whistles.

The first rocket shot into the sky, leaving a trail of golden sparks before exploding into a burst of red and green. The children gasped and cheered, clapping as the night lit up with colors.

“Did you see that one?” Ada, Sindara’s best friend, exclaimed, her eyes wide with amazement.

“It was beautiful!” Sindara said. “But wait, I’m going to catch it.” She held up her Light Catcher as another firework soared into the sky, bursting into a shower of silver stars. The glitter inside the jar sparkled under the light, and Sindara laughed. “See? It works!”

Tami ran over, pointing at the jar. “Wow, Sindara! It’s like you’re keeping the fireworks in there.”

“It’s just a trick,” Sindara said, winking. “But it’s fun, right?”

The night continued with fireworks lighting up the sky in every color imaginable. There were spirals of gold, fountains of silver, and rockets that exploded into star-shaped patterns. The dads laughed as they carefully lit each firework, while the moms clapped and cheered along with the children.

As the grand finale approached, everyone gathered closer. This was the part where the biggest firework of the night, called “The Sky King,” would light up the entire sky. The countdown began: “Five, four, three, two, one!”

With a loud bang, “The Sky King” rocketed into the air and exploded into a dazzling display of gold, red, and blue, filling the night with light. The crowd erupted into cheers.

As the night ended, Sindara looked up at the fading sparks in the sky. “Fireworks are like Christmas magic,” she said to Ada. “They remind us how beautiful life can be when we share it with family and friends.”

Everyone left the field with happy hearts and big smiles, already dreaming of next year’s fireworks.
